How to Make Your Home “Smart”
When you think about the term “smart house” you may reminisce on the late 1990’s Disney classic! While were not talking about a house with a mind of its own, we are talking about updating your home with the latest and greatest home equipment. As tech evolves, you may find yourself wondering how you can make your home life easier. These time and money-saving gadgets are here to stay so check out your next smart home upgrade!
Smart Speakers
Smart speakers have taken homes by storm! These units are sleek but pack a powerful punch to deliver you quality music without the need for a full-blown entertainment system. Just connect your favorite streaming service or play directly from your phone and dive into your favorite songs! These devices not only play music but can help you surf the web, answer questions, and even tell you the weather! Smart speakers can also be paired together to improve sound and be easily accessed anywhere in your home.
Smart TV
As streaming services become more popular than cable television, many homeowners are changing over to smart televisions in their home. Some homes don’t have cable routed to the room you want to put your TV in but fear not, smart TVs don’t need to be connected to cable! You can access all your favorite shows and music through various streaming platforms by connecting it to wi-fi or ethernet. Many smart TVs also support screen sharing with your phone or computer so you can wirelessly connect to the big screen at any time!
Smart Bulbs
Smart bulbs are a fun low-cost way to dabble into smart home tech. They offer a degree of control and interactivity that you won’t find with standard LED bulbs, like timers and remote control. Whether you use them for indoor or outdoor lighting, smart bulbs can be turned on and off directly from your phone. Certain brands can even turn the lights on or off when you get home or leave the house, now that’s convenient! Additionally, these bulbs can be used to set the mood as many offer a full array of color lighting. For as low as $10 you can start to explore the many possibilities these bulbs have to offer.
Smart Thermostats
Smart thermostats are not a new technology, but they are an awesome investment. Smart thermostats are internet-connected modules to control your heating and/or cooling depending on your home’s HVAC setup. The advantage to making your thermostat smart is being able to control it from your phone, anywhere in the world! Smart thermostats can also learn how you use your heating or cooling preferences to automatically adjust based on external temperatures or time of day, saving you money on your heating and cooling bill.
Indoor Smart Gardens
This emerging technology takes the guesswork out of home gardening! If you have ever gardened at home before you know it takes a lot of work and practice to earn your green thumb! Indoor smart gardens take the burden away from gardening and can help you grow fresh produce or herbs at home with minimal effort. These units monitor your plant and can notify you when to water and feed them so you can add fresh food to your daily cooking!
Smart Doorbells
While it sounds a bit silly that something as basic as a doorbell could be a smart technology, smart doorbells are cool tech! These devices allow you to interact with someone at your doorway in a whole new way. Smart doorbells are typically equipped with a camera and microphone and allow you to “answer” the door from anywhere via the internet. In addition, these systems can also work as security devices and can be set to capture video footage with a motion sensor, so you’ll always have eyes on your entryway!
Smart Locks
Home safety had evolved from the basic deadbolt to help keep you safer! Smart locks connect your home directly to your phone, which means you can lock or unlock your doors without even being there. If the kids forgot the keys again, no problem just flip the lock for them and presto they are in. Another perk is that smart locks can connect to other smart home devices such as doorbells, lights, etc. Some models can even connect with your smart thermostat to change the temperature when you lock or unlock the doors!
